This Stray Was Trapped Under A Dock For 7 Days! Rescuers Did Everything They Could To Save Her…
By Victoria Lange
Eleanor is a cat that lived as a stray in San Pedro, California. She had been hanging around a marina and had developed relationships with some of the dock’s residents. A woman named Olivia, along with her husband, had grown fond of Eleanor (they are actually the ones that named her). And though Eleanor was a stray, Olivia and her husband became concerned when they hadn’t seen her around for a few days. It was like the friendly stray had disappeared… well, that is until the day they heard the familiar sound of Eleanor’s meow. But despite hearing this stray’s call, she was nowhere to be seen. After a bit of searching it was discovered that Eleanor had somehow managed to get stuck under the dock. Immediately, they contacted a rescue organization by the name of SMART (aka Specialized Mobile Animal Rescue Team) for help.
If one thing is clear at all from watching this video, is that the men apart of this rescue organization are very determined. They never gave up, despite facing a situation that seems impossible. Alas, nothing is impossible for these guys. When they arrived at the marina, the immediately went to work. They got divers to suit-up and go into the water to evaluate the situation. They found Eleanor wedged in between two sections of the dock. More specifically, she had wedged herself in the tube that runs through the dock and attaches the dock’s sections together. The rescuers are unsure of how Eleanor managed to do this. Their best guess is that she fell into the water and was unable to pull herself back onto the dock so she, instead, found her way to the tube and clawed her way onto it.
Once they realized the extent of the situation, the rescuers began trying everything they could think. Unable to just reach in and grab her (the space was too narrow and too unsafe for Eleanor), their first attempt was the use of a floating platform that they tied to the dock. Once in place, they tried calling to her and she wouldn’t budge. Their second attempt was to build a longer and sturdier floating dock. They attached a trapping cage to the new floating dock and placed fresh food in it to lure Eleanor out, but she still wouldn’t budge. For their final attempt, one of the rescuers purchased a cement cutter from the local hardware store and they cut a hole into the dock. And not to sound repetitive, but Eleanor still wouldn’t surface from her spot. It wasn’t until Olivia and her husband intervened that Eleanor was finally brought to safety. Out of concern, the dock residents just reached into the newly made hole, grabbed Eleanor, and pulled her to safety.
Eleanor was trapped under that dock for a total of 7 days! Thankfully, they discovered that, besides needing a bath, she was unharmed. Olivia and her husband took Eleanor into their home (boat) and provided her with the care, love, and food that she craved.
